What Data Does Apple Collect From Your iPhone?

As the name already suggests, iPhone Analytics & Improvements in Settings collects data useful for analyzing, evaluating, and assessing your iPhone’s performance. Apple then uses this data to keep track of trends and improve its features to suit its users.

This consists of system information such as your iPhone’s battery health, storage capacity, and usage data indicating how often you use an app, setting, or feature and how much time you spend on it. It also includes details of software performance that tell Apple when and why an app crashed, why your iPhone got stuck, why it keeps showing the Apple logo and turns off, and so on.

The data gathered does not personally identify you, and all personal details are removed before analytical reports are sent to Apple. Analytics & Improvements does not record the personal details you put into an app, the websites you browse through, or your contacts and messages.

However, it is important to note that if you have Location Services enabled, it can track your device’s location. It can also collect your voice and dictation samples if you have it enabled.

Disable Analytics & Improvements on Your iPhone

If you’re not comfortable sharing this information with Apple, you can simply disable this feature. From here on out, you have three options:

If you’re okay with all analytical data being collected but would rather keep your location private, you can disable this feature in Location Services separately or disable Location Services altogether.

If you’re okay with most of the analytical data being collected but would like to prevent some, you can disable specific categories of analytical data. If you would rather not have any data collected at all, you can disable this feature altogether.

To disable iPhone Analytics, follow these steps:

  • Open Settings and go to Privacy & Security.
  • Scroll down and tap on Analytics & Improvements.
  • You will now see a bunch of toggles and features allowing you to disable iCloud data, health records, safety, Siri & Dictation, and more. Toggle off what you see fit.
  • To disable everything altogether, turn off the toggle for Share iPhone Analytics right at the top. This will appear as Share iPhone & Watch Analytics if you have an Apple Watch.

If you want to disable iPhone Analytics from Location Services, here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Open Settings and go to Privacy & Security.
  • Tap Location Services at the top.
  • Scroll down to the bottom and tap System Services.
  • Toggle off iPhone Analytics under Product Improvement.
