TachyHealth, Zayed University to fight healthcare fraud with AI

AI-driven health tech firm TachyHealth has joined hands with Abu Dhabi’s Zayed University on a two-year project, which aims to address healthcare abuse, reported Zawya.

The partners aim to combat healthcare fraud with Graph Neural Networks (GNNs).

They will work on creating GNN algorithms for identifying fraudulent transactions in healthcare systems.

This project, named Fraud detection in medical claims using Graph Neural Networks, is being supported by a AED300,000 ($81,677) Research Innovation Fund (RIF) grant.

Its team is being headed by Zayed University principal investigator Dr. Dina Tbaishat. 

Zayed University associate professor Dr. Mohamed Amril Nazir said: “Closer collaboration with the private sector produces research which aligns with national and international agendas, and adds value to businesses and governments.

“This is a key component of Zayed University’s approach to research.”

In addition, the collaboration will develop a visual decision support system for deploying these algorithms as real-world solutions.

This is expected to reduce fraud, prevent abuse of medical services, and lessen the workload on institutions.

TachyHealth CEO Dr. Osama AbouElkhir said: “The number of claims made by beneficiaries has risen rapidly because of fraudulent billing, and detecting fraudulent transactions is difficult owing to various complexities.
