The Trump Organization has been convicted on all counts in a criminal tax fraud case, by a jury in New York. Former US President Donald Trump, the sole principal of the Trump Organization, was not present at the trial because he was never charged.
Prosecutors stated that President Trump knew about the 15-year scheme in which company executives were rewarded with off-the-record incentives to compensate for lower pay, thereby lowering the company’s tax obligations. Lawyers representing the Trump Organization pinned the blame squarely on the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Allen Weisellerg, who had earlier agreed to a plea deal instead of a 5-month prison sentence. Weisselberg’s testimony strengthened the jury’s verdict at the end of the six-week trial period.
Donald Trump’s presidential aspirations for a re-term definitely take a jolt with more trouble cropping for him. In another development, two classified documents were recovered from a storage unit rented for the former president in Florida. Trump is being investigated for keeping classified information after leaving office, which led the FBI to search his Mar-a-Lago estate in August.
The firm hired by Trump in adherence to the federal grand jury subpoena issued on him in May also searched his properties like The Trump Tower in New York and the golf course in New Jersey. The Washington Post reported that the discovery of classified items in Mar-a-Lago showed that the Trump administration did not comply with the grand jury subpoena that asked for all sensitive documents deemed classified still be housed in the post-presidential office.
