Midland Care Connection Inc. announced the hiring of its new director of human resources, Lamar Leon. In this role, Leon leads a growing HR team in reinforcing strong company culture, participating in ongoing quality improvement and development programs, and providing advice and counsel to all employees on rights and responsibilities that promote maximum effectiveness in the MCCI workforce. Leon has over more than seven years of experience in human resources. He enjoys implementing reward and talent management strategies that support achieving company goals and objectives. Leon most recently served as director of human resources for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and hospital employee relations manager for the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services. A native of Tallahassee, Florida, Leon has a master’s of business administration in human resource management and finance from Baker University, a bachelor’s of science in justice studies from Fort Hays State University and is working on multiple certifications. He enjoys bike riding, sports and grilling. He lives in Topeka and has one daughter.

Kyle Scheideman, funeral director for Dove Cremations and Funerals, Topeka, and pastor at Stull Community of Faith Church, Lecompton, recently completed 150 hours of training from the internationally recognized Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado. Course study included five separate training seminars titled “Living with Meaning and Purpose,” “Companioning Bereaved Parents,” “Creating Meaningful Funeral Ceremonies,” “Becoming an Effective Grief Educator” and “Exploring the Spiritual Dimensions of Death, Grief, and Mourning.” The courses were taught by Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D., a noted author, educator, and grief counselor. Scheideman has worked in the Topeka area as a funeral director for nearly 20 years.
