Aegean Airlines and Cyprus Airways are gearing up to announce a new codeshare agreement, according to the local Greek newspaper Ekathimerini. This partnership is expected to expand the range of destinations available to passengers of both airlines, providing them with enhanced travel options.

Better connectivity
While the official announcement of codeshare agreement is scheduled to take place at an upcoming press conference next week, this agreement will enable customers to purchase tickets for flights operated by either airline, as the flight codes will be shared.
The selection of destinations included in the codesharing arrangement and its implications on the flight offerings will be announced by executives of both airlines. While codesharing typically favors larger carriers, this collaboration has the potential to broaden the scope of smaller airlines by expanding their network of available destinations, especially across the Mediterranean region

Aegean Airlines, the national carrier of Greece, presently operates flights to 128 destinations, according to their official website. However, their ambitious goal is to expand their services to reach a total of 165 destinations in 46 countries by the end of 2023. This expansion will be facilitated from their ten operational bases.
Aegean currently operates a fleet of 58 aircraft, including 41 Airbus A320s (27 A320-200s and 14 A320neos) and 17 Airbus A321 jets (12 A321neos and five A321-200s), according to Planespotters.net data. The airline, however, has outlined its plans to enhance its fleet by introducing new Airbus A320 and A321neo jets, aiming to increase the total number of aircraft in its fleet to 76.
Meanwhile, Cyprus Airways offers services to 19 destinations across key European cities as well as the Middle East. The airline currently operates a fleet of three Airbus A320-200 jets, as per Planespotters.net.

New codeshare partnerships this week
Codeshare partnerships are standard practice in the aviation industry as this collaboration between airlines allows for greater flexibility and choice in travel options for passengers. Last week saw many airlines announce new codeshare partnerships in Europe.
During the International Air Transport Association’s Annual General Meeting, Icelandair and Turkish Airlines officially inked a codeshare agreement. Passengers of Icelandair can now seamlessly connect to destinations in the Middle East and Asia with a convenient layover in Istanbul. Likewise, travelers flying with Turkish Airlines gain the advantage of onward connections to Icelandair’s westbound destinations spanning across the North American continent.

Italy’s national carrier, ITA Airways, and Turkish Airlines have revealed yet another codeshare agreement this week. However, this collaboration is set to be activated starting in July 2023, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and travel options between the two airlines. Already surpassing other carriers, Turkish Airlines boasts the highest number of countries served worldwide, with these agreements further expanding its global reach.
