Instagram is back online following a short outage

It’s one of the most popular social media platforms around the world, but it appears that Instagram is down this morning. 

According to DownDetector, the problems started at around  09:16 BST and are affecting users globally.

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, of those who reported problems in the UK, 44 per cent said they were struggling with the app, 43 per cent with the website, and 13 per cent with the feed. 

MailOnline tried to access profiles on the desktop version of the platform and received an error messaging reading: ‘Something went wrong. There’s an issue and the page could not be loaded.’

DownDetector collates reports of outages from multiple sources, including social media and mobile apps. 

Just after 9am BST on Friday it had more than 200 reports from affected users, following on from an earlier spike shortly after 6am. 

The Instagram Comms account on Twitter, which usually confirms any outages, is yet to comment on the issue, although it now appears to be resolved.

MailOnline has contacted Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s company that owns Instagram, for more information. 

Those affected took to Twitter to share their frustration, with one saying that Stories, video and music were not loading.  

Instagram confirmed on May 22 that it suffered another outage, although it didn’t go into details about the cause.

At the time the Instagram Comms account tweeted: ‘Instagram is back! Sorry for the trouble – we had a brief outage earlier and resolved the issue that caused it.’ 

It followed a particularly big Instagram outage last November that left users unable to access their accounts, with many being told they’d been suspended.

Several Instagram users reported their accounts being suspended because they ‘didn’t follow its community guidelines’.

Those who clicked to appeal against the suspension were then presented with a mysterious black screen with a loading circle. 

Earlier this week, Outlook users had issues accessing their emails due to problems at owner Microsoft. 

British Airways website hit with outage that leaves travellers unable to check in for their flights 

Near the end of May the British Airways website crashed, leaving frustrated travellers unable to check in for their flights. 

According to Down Detector, more than 260 complaints had been logged on Down Detector, a website that monitors outages.  

Of those who reported issues, 63 per cent said they were struggling with the website, while 35 per cent said the problem was with the app.

MailOnline attempted to access the website, and received an error message that read: ‘There is currently no access to your account while we upgrade our system. 

Taking to Twitter, one traveller said: ‘British Airways is your website down? Not been able to look at flight etc, flying home from USA tomorrow.’
