Pittsburgh police are asking for the public’s help in finding a kidney donation for one of their officers.
Officer Jeffrey Crawford has been on dialysis and on the kidney transplant waitlist for more than a year. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police says Crawford has rarely missed a day of work in that time.

Crawford responds to different 911 and 311 calls and is active in the community. Police shared photos of Crawford attending various community events and said he is active in schools, attends public safety council meetings, shows up to youth sports events and has set up different food and toy drives.
People who want to learn more about whether or not they are eligible to donate a kidney can attend a virtual event called The First Steps to Transplant on Feb 26. The free event is hosted by the National Kidney Foundation and will run from 12-2 p.m. Anyone interested in attending can register online. Blood type does not matter in kidney transplants.

Pittsburgh Police ask anyone who is serious about donating a kidney to Officer Crawford to contact the UPMC Donor Registry. The donor registry phone number is 412-647-4438. Interested parties can also register online. Police say anyone registering online will need to use Crawford’s full name.
