Dave Charbonneau, a Brookline Youth Hockey coach, was recently diagnosed with stage IV cancer.

Through it all, Charbonneau remains determined to help his kids learn the game.

The Boston Bruins welcomed Charbonneau, a father of four, to the ice at Warrior Ice Arena on Friday.

Charbonneau has been fostering and teaching kids hockey for more than a decade.

“Now I see a lot of these kids and they’re really good hockey players,” Charbonneau said. “I remember when they couldn’t even do a hockey stop or skate backwards.”

The little hockey stars, along with Charbonneau, were able to practice their skills on the same ice surface that the Bruins do.

They even got to face off against one of the stars of the team, Weymouth’s Charlie Coyle. “It’s fun to interact and the funny things that come out of kids’ mouths,” Coyle said with a smile.
