Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello just made their 2021 Met Gala debut and holy sh*t they looked amazing. Camila stunned in purple glitter gown with a cropped top by Michael Kors, while Shawn complemented her look by wearing all black and an open shirt.
Honestly, a truly nice moment—especially since the couple didn’t walk the carpet together at the 2021 VMAs, instead walking (and performing) solo. Though, um, Shawn was spotted dancing to Camila’s performance of “Don’t Go Yet,” which I think we can all agree was a mood:
As a reminder, this year’s Met Gala is being co-chaired by Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, Timothée Chalamet, and Naomi Osaka, and the theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” Obviously, Shawn and Camila understood the assignment.
Also, just gonna drop a little more info on the theme while we’re here: Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, explained toVogue that “I’ve been really impressed by American designers’ responses to the social and political climate, particularly around issues of body inclusivity and gender fluidity, and I’m just finding their work very, very self-reflective. I really do believe that American fashion is undergoing a renaissance. I think young designers in particular are at the vanguard of discussions about diversity and inclusion, as well as sustainability and transparency, much more so than their European counterparts, maybe with the exception of the English designers.”
Can’t wait to see more looks as the carpet continues!
