Donald Trump Presidential Debate Update Raises Questions

Questions have been raised after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed he would debate Democratic rival Kamala Harris on Fox News before the agreed-upon ABC debate on September 10.

“The first Debate with Kamala Harris, for President of the United States of America, will be with FoxNews on September 4th, 2024, LIVE from beautiful Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The second Debate will take place on Fake News ABC, home of George Slopadopoulos, to be anchored by David Muir, on September 10th, 2024, at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,” Trump wrote on Truth Social shortly after midnight on Sunday.

“The third Debate will take place on NBC, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 25th, 2024, to be anchored by Lester Holt – Details to follow. I look forward to seeing Kamala at all three Debates! DJT.”

However, the Harris campaign suggested that this schedule was not agreed to from their side, except for the ABC debate.

“We’re pleased Trump finally agreed to debate the vice president on ABC after previously trying to back out. We are open to another debate, and we’ll continue those conversations. But to be clear, any additional debate would be subject to Trump actually showing up on September 10. We’re not playing his games,” a Harris campaign aide told Newsweek in a Sunday morning email.

Newsweek has contacted Trump’s campaign for comment via email.

ABC is currently set to hold the debate on September 10, which both President Joe Biden and Trump had agreed to. But after Biden dropped out of the race, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the debate “should be held on Fox News, rather than very biased ABC,” which he described as “the WORST in the business” and “not worthy” of hosting a debate.

But on Thursday, during a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump said he would, in fact, debate Harris on the ABC News stage a month from now.

In response to Trump’s Truth Social post about the alleged debate schedule, self-described anti-Trump user @AJDelgado13 wrote on X, formerly Twitter on Sunday “Dementia Don: ‘If I just say something enough times, and ‘put it out into the universe’, it’ll happen!'”

Trump-critical news account @MeidasTouch wrote on X on Sunday “Donald Trump is up late making up fake debates that nobody agreed to. His mental decline is deepening by the day.

Democratic findraiser @joncoopertweets wrote on X, “In your dreams, Donny Boy. As Kamala Harris told you, she’ll consider scheduling additional debates but only AFTER you actually show up for the first debate on September 10th on ABC. Of course, that’s assuming you don’t chicken out. Cluck, cluck!!”
