We Energies no longer asking customers to lower thermostats

(WLUK) — We Energies lifted its call for customers to lower thermostats due to natural gas pipeline issues.

“This morning the amount of natural gas being delivered by interstate pipelines into Wisconsin is back to levels that should meet all customers’ needs. Therefore, We Energies is no longer urging customers to reduce their natural gas use,” the utility tweeted Saturday morning.

We Energies requested customers to conserve energy after the Guardian pipeline had an equipment failure Friday during the bitter cold temperatures.

While the cold from Winter Storm Brooklyn may make you want to crank the heat, the company is asking their customers to lower their thermostats to roughly 60 degrees.

That’s because an interstate pipeline supplier that provides We Energies with natural gas experienced a significant equipment failure. The failure is limiting the amount of fuel the supplier sends to We Energies.

We Energies has multiple sources to receive natural gas, but with the extreme temperatures, the company isn’t able to receive additional natural gas from its other pipeline suppliers.

To reduce demand for natural gas, We Energies is already drawing from its liquefied natural gas and propane storage facilities. But now the company is asking customers to reduce their use by lowering their thermostats and avoiding using other natural gas appliances, like fireplaces, dryers and ovens.
